Farm School OC includes teacher-led circle time with farm-themed lessons, stories, music, and play-based exploration. Children take part in hands-on learning tables with sensory activities, nature-inspired creative projects and arts and crafts, outdoor games and discovery, and gardening. The program also includes daily animal care, caring for animals, learning about daily farm routines, farm activities, food tastings inspired by the farm, preparing and tasting farm-fresh foods, whipping up recipes using fresh ingredients, music, and all-day farm access, with time to explore the farm and stop at the farmers market to stock up on fresh, local produce.
• Ages: 15 months–8 years old
• Schedule: Caregiver & Me classes on Mondays in the morning, and Farm To School Morning Program options Monday through Thursday during late morning to early afternoon in the school year
Farm School OC offers a Caregiver & Me Program on Mondays at set morning times, and a Farm To School Morning Program on Mondays and Tuesdays with a monthly field trip, as well as Wednesday and Thursday morning options during the months of September through May. Campers and children in the Farm To School Morning Program must be fully potty trained. Animals and farming are the heart of the programs, and all-day farm access is included for a full hands-on experience. Farm School OC is part of Magic Steps Studios, the parent company, and charter school funds are accepted, with camps offered at two separate farm locations.
Farm School OC began 3 years ago with the start of Farm School OC Camps. The leadership team includes Ms. Brooke as Owner, Ms. Lara as Head Teacher, Ms. McKenna as Assistant Teacher, and Jennifer as Operations Manager. Ms. Brooke has been teaching children in music and art for over 13 years, Ms. Lara earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology and Conservation from the University of Delaware, and Ms. McKenna has a degree in Early Childhood Education, previously teaching at a nature-based preschool and working as a farmhand on a sheep farm in New Zealand. The stated goal of Farm School OC is to nurture empathy and compassion for animals and to model an appreciation for farming, sustainability, buying local, eating healthy, and making the world a better place.
